Puri Police Identifies All Accused In Triple-Murder Case, Massive Manhunt Underway

Puri: In connection with the heart-wrenching triple-murder at Patnaikia Square in Sakhigopal on Sunday, Puri police today said that all the accused involved in the crime have been identified.

The accused and the victims, all are members of an extended family, and were engaged in a long-standing civil dispute. The crime was committed within few minutes and the accused fled from the spot immediately after killing three persons, Puri SP Dr Umashankar Dash said.

“While there were four to five persons who launched the brutal attack, we have identified all of them, as well as those who were involved in hatching the murder plot, directly as well as indirectly,” Dash said.

The two warring factions were engaged in a severe fight on May 1, following which the police had registered a case against them. In this case, some of the accused had surrendered in the police station, while others surrendered before the court, Dash added.

The incident took place on the busy Bhubaneswar – Puri highway on Sunday evening when the ‘Adhara Pana’ ritual of the Holy Trinity was underway in the Pilgrim Town.

The murder of three members of a family sparked tension at the busy junction and soon after the highway was blocked by locals. It took police and the administration more than two hours to clear the blockade and facilitate the traffic flow.
