Puri: The Puri police have been placed on high alert following a massive car bomb explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort earlier today. The blast killed at least 10 people and injured more than two dozen others, prompting authorities across the country to heighten security measures.

“I urge everyone that if anyone notices any suspicious object or activity in Puri, they should immediately inform us by dialing 112. Our teams will reach the spot without delay and secure the area. All the Inspector In-Charges (IICs) are on full alert. Entry and exit points of Puri town are being monitored closely, and patrolling has been intensified. The Coast Guard, railway stations, and bus stand areas are under strict surveillance. Our anti-sabotage and bomb disposal teams have already reached Puri and are actively inspecting key locations, including temple entrances and exits. Police personnel have been deployed across the city, and any suspicious activity will be dealt with swiftly. At the railway station, we are coordinating closely with the Government Railway Police (GRP), who are also on high alert,” said the Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh while speaking to reporters.

SP Singh further stated that all IICs of police stations in Puri have been instructed to increase patrolling and remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, heightened security measures have also been implemented at Hirakud Dam on the Mahanadi River in Burla, Sambalpur. Sambalpur SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said police officials have been directed to ensure safety at all critical installations in the district.

The Delhi Fire Department said an explosion happened near Delhi’s Red Fort at around 6.52 pm. Blast-like sounds were heard, and they received a report about the incident. The explosion also started fires in three other vehicles. Seven fire engines have been sent to the site, but details about the damage are not yet known.
