Puri Police Resort To Mild Lathicharge In Pentakota Over Violation Of COVID-19 Norms
Puri: The Sea Beach police had to resort to mild lathi-charge after residents of Pentakota area of Puri grossly violated social distancing norms, breached the containment zone and misbehaved with healthcare officials.
To control the spread of coronavirus, 15 regions of 4 wards were converted into containment zone for a week which was to be implemented from Saturday 9 pm. A team of healthcare officials were deployed to collect swab samples of four residents.
The locals objected to the entry of ASHA and Anganwadi workers unless the reports were submitted. Sources said that the healthcare workers were manhandled by the protesting locals. To bring back normalcy a police team was called upon the scene. The arguments worsened and huge people gathered to protest the entry of police or healthcare officials.
Puri SP Akhileswar Singh, accompanied by the additional SP and two platoons of police, soon reached the spot. To disperse the crowd, the police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge.
Eight people were identified who instigated the unrest. Tehsildar has ordered action against them.
An ASHA worker deployed has angrily reacted to the way she and her team were misbehaved.
