Puri: Even after the seizure of 6.67 kilograms of brown sugar, 26 kilogram of ganja, and 84 arrests in 39 cases of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in a year, the Puri Police is unable to keep a check on the drugs trade in the district.
In order to achieve this target, the Puri Police has launched an initiative ‘Matru Shakti’ where local women will work as volunteers and report against drug trafficking in their areas.
An awareness camp in this regard had been organised at Narendra Kona in Puri where Kanwar Vishal Singh said they want to make Puri town drug-free with the help of Matru Shakti volunteers.
The volunteers will work in close coordination with the nodal officers of police stations. They will conduct awareness drives with the help of police and keep tabs on drug peddlers as well as addicts in their neighbourhoods.
