Puri: The rituals for chariot construction for Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri began on Thursday with the worship of the timber logs.
As per tradition, every year on Saraswati Puja day, three Dhaura wood logs are placed at the Chariot yard (Ratha Khala) and worshipped with prescribed rituals.
Accordingly, the royal priest along with chief servitor of Puri Srimandir performed the rituals in presence of the temple’s Niti (Ritual) Administrator, Maharana servitors, Bhoi servitors and representatives of district administration.
Reportedly, as many as 53 logs from Nayagarh forest division reached Puri in two trucks on January 25. While 865 logs are needed for construction of the three chariots, 193 logs are already in stock.
