Puri: Puri SP Pinak Mishra has ordered an inquiry into the alleged assault of a specially-abled person by a police officer at the Talabania police station here.

“We have received a complaint of a person being allegedly assaulted by an officer of the Talabania police station. We have sought a detailed report from the SDPO Sadar. After getting the report we will take appropriate action,” informed Puri SP Pinak Mishra.

The victim, a specially-abled youth identified as Anil Kumar Padhi (34) of Bhudan Nagar has a betel shop at Bank Colony under Talabania police limits in Puri.

Two drug addicts were engaged in a brawl in front of Anil’s shop on July 30. Later, a few youths came and thrashed the drug addicts. These youths rebuked Anil for the commotion in front of his shop.

“I was sitting in my shop. At around 3.30 PM I was asked by the police and the public to close the shop. On reaching home my father took me to the police station. Initially, I was made to sit and had tiffin brought by my father. Then a tall person in civil dress came and thrashed me. He was joined by the IIC who also beat me up,” alleged Anil Padhi.
