Puri: The premises of Swargadwar was sanitized by the Fire Services department after restrictions imposed on conducting final rites here were lifted.
Today officials of the department undertook the sanitization drive. The decision was taken in the wake of bodies from outside the district arriving for last rites. The sanitization will help significantly reduce the chances of transmission.
As COVID-19 cases mounted in the State and especially in Puri district, restrictions were imposed and bodies from outside the district were barred from cremation at the Swargadwar. Collector Balwant Singh said, from Monday (October 19) onward, the restrictions on cremation were relaxed for people belonging to districts other than Puri.
The decision was taken in view of the decline in daily COVID-19 cases. Puri Municipality has been instructed to keep a close watch on the cremations and ensure adherence of COVID guidelines.
