Puri: In a major boost to Odisha’s tourism infrastructure, Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Pravati Parida on Sunday announced that a cruise terminal worth Rs 1,000 crore will be constructed in Puri.
The project is expected to significantly enhance the city’s appeal as a maritime and leisure destination, drawing both domestic and international tourists.
Speaking at the 40th foundation day celebration of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO), Dy CM Parida also revealed plans to develop a city spanning 1,500 acres in the Sipasarubali area of Puri district. The new development aims to promote tourism-led urban growth and provide modern facilities for visitors.
“Odisha has immense potential in tourism. If we move forward without fear and focus on the future, we will certainly progress. The tourism landscape is expanding rapidly, and we must keep pace with it,” she said.
Parida further added that three Blue Flag beaches will be developed between Nuanai and Astaranga to strengthen Odisha’s coastal tourism profile. The Blue Flag certification is an internationally recognised standard for high-quality beaches, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and sustainable management.
The Deputy CM emphasised that the projects are part of the state government’s broader plan to position Odisha as a leading tourism hub, creating employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.
