Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Kamala Kanta Nayak will be attempting Guinness World Record in ‘Greatest Distance Covered in 24 hours on wheelchair’. While the previous record for 184 kms, Nayak will attempt for 200 kms. Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited are assisting to make the event a success.
Nayak, a noted Wheelchair Athlete will go for the record attempt on January 15 – 16, 2022. Secretary of Odisha State Wheelchair Basketball Association and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited are finalising the venue for the attempt. Senior Consultant Sk Abdul Rab will coordinate the event along with Odisha State Wheelchair Basketball Association.
Nayak, a native of Puri suffers from a spinal cord injury. His unending quest to resurrect the life brought him across Dr PP Mohanty at National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Olatpur. During his days at NIRTAR, Nayak bloomed and developed keen interest in athletics. He has risen as a para-athlete and never looked back.
In addition to the Sports and Marathon, Nayak became a champion in Peer Mentoring Paralysed Spinal Cord Injury persons across India. At least 500 persons have been impacted by him till day.
