Bhubaneswar: Former Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra’s eldest daughter Sikta Pati joined the Indian National Congress here on Wednesday.
Pati joined the grand old party at Congress Bhawan in the presence of Odisha Congress in-charge A Chellakumar, Odisha PCC chief Sarat Pattanayak, and former OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik.
Her joining comes five days after former Odisha Chief Secretary Bijay Patnaik joined Congress at the grand old party’s headquarters in New Delhi.
An MA in Economics, Sikta also holds an MBA degree. After Mohapatra’s demise on March 19, 2017, she joined Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM), the party founded by her father, and became its Secretary-General. In 2019, she joined the BJD.
After joining the party today, Pati said that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra inspired her to join the Congress.
“Dr Sikta Pati, a renowned social activist & daughter of ex-MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra, has officially joined the Congress party With her strong leadership skills & unwavering commitment to social justice, Dr. Pati is a valuable addition to the party. Welcome aboard,” the Pradesh Congress’ tweeted.
