Bhubaneswar: In a push to the state government’s drive to promote millet consumption, the Odisha Millets Mission tableau secured the first prize at the state-level Republic Day parade at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Thursday.
Tableaux of nine departments of the Odisha government, including Agriculture, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Health, Education, Works, Tourism Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, along with OSACS, OMC and Fire Department, highlighted the various initiatives taken by these departments were on show at the parade.
In addition to the tableaux, the Republic Day programme at the Mahatma Gandhi Road included traditional dance and music performances by troupes from different districts of the state.
Pasu Mukha Nrutya was performed by troupes from Kabisuryanagar in Ganjam with Ghanta Mrudanga music while artistes from Boudh district enthralled the audience with Sabar Sabaruni dance. In addition, artistes from Bhawanipatna in the Kalahandi district performed Bajasal, Singari and Ghumura dances and members of primitive tribes from Rayagada district of the state performed Dhemsa dance.
Daredevil acts on motorcycles and skating were also the main attractions of the parade.
