Bhubaneswar: The Indian Railways on Tuesday announced that it will run 857 special trains for 20 lakh pilgrims visiting Puri to participate in the Rath Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath and His sibling deities beginning today.
Speaking to the media in Puri, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Elaborate arrangements have been made at the Puri railway station to ensure proper drinking water supply and toilets. We have used AI technology to ensure that buses automatically leave Malatipatpur as soon as a train arrives to aid the onward journey of the devotees.”
He added, “Tents have been put up, and devotees are being provided free food too. Priority has been given to the safety and security of the pilgrims and a 24X7 police control room has also been set up.”
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR), 208 special trains will be operated from different parts of Odisha as well as Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh for devotees visiting Puri for the Rath Yatra of the Holy Trinity.
