Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for 20 districts in Odisha, predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall with lightning over the next four days.
The districts under the yellow warning include Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
According to the weather department, a low-pressure area over Odisha has weakened and is now active over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas. In the last 24 hours, 18 districts in Odisha received heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The weather department predicts that the rainfall will decrease from Saturday onwards. Meanwhile, thunderstorms and lightning are expected to continue over the next few days, and people are advised to take necessary precautions.
Regional Weather Centre Director Manorama Mohanty said that in the last 24 hours, Odisha received 149% more rainfall than normal. Excessive rainfall was recorded at one place, while 10 places recorded very heavy rainfall and 28 places recorded heavy rainfall.
