Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for parts of Odisha for tomorrow, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. The alert comes as the state braces for a spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers, expected to continue in various districts until April 18.
According to the IMD’s mid-day bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely in the afternoon or evening hours at one or two places across the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nabarangpur. Dry weather is expected to prevail in the remaining parts of the state.
An Orange warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph at a few places over Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Kandhamal.
In addition, a Yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 40–50 kmph at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi.
On Sunday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may continue in similar areas. A Yellow warning for lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput.
Rainfall activity is expected to slightly intensify, with a few places in Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, and Puri likely to receive showers. One or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati may also experience thundershowers.
A Yellow warning remains in place for parts of northern and coastal Odisha for thunderstorms and winds (30–40 kmph).
From April 15 to 18, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected to continue across many districts of the state, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
No major change in daytime temperatures is expected during the next 4–5 days. However, maximum temperatures may reach or exceed 40°C in isolated pockets of Bolangir and Sundargarh.
