Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further into a depression around Monday and bring rainfall in the coastal regions of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin on Friday morning.
According to the weather office, a low-pressure area has formed over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify further into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around October 23.
Some parts of Odisha, including coastal Odisha Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Ganjam, and Gajapati may experience moderate rainfall on October 24 and the amount of rain is likely to increase on October 15. Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh districts in Odisha are also likely to experience rainfall during this period.
Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely in some districts of coastal Odisha, and the wind speed is likely to be around 50 to 60 km per hour. Gusty winds can reach up to 70 km per hour.
The regional center of IMD said the sea will be turbulent and, hence, fishermen have been advised to exercise caution.
