Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here predicted rain or thunderstorm in several districts of Odisha on Friday.
As per an IMD bulletin, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places in the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha today.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts today, the IMD forecasted issuing a yellow warning for these districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Keonjhar and Nabarangpur on Friday, said the IMD bulletin.
Some Odisha districts may witness rain or thunderstorm till May 8, it added.
A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 6. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region around May 7. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on May 8, said the IMD.
Thereafter, the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm moving nearly northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal. The details of its path and intensification will be provided after the formation of a low-pressure area. The system is under constant watch and being monitored regularly added the weatherman.
