Rain, Thunderstorm Likely In Odisha Over Next 3 Days

Bhubaneswar: Light rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places in several districts of Odisha over the next three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over Odisha and its neighbourhood, extending up to about 1.5 km above mean sea level. In addition, a trough from the system extends towards northwest Uttar Pradesh across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, while another trough runs from Odisha towards coastal Karnataka across Telangana and interior Karnataka.

Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely to occur at one or two places in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bargarh and Sonepur, while the remaining districts may witness mainly dry weather.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for March 8, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places over several districts of the state.

For March 9, the weather office has sounded an orange alert for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Sundargarh districts.

A yellow warning has also been issued for districts including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Boudh on the same day.

For March 10, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.

The IMD has advised people to remain alert and take precautions during thunderstorm and lightning activity.
