Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorm in several districts in Odisha on June 1. The yellow warning will continue in the state for three days and many Odisha districts are likely to experience rain and squall till June 3.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorm at a few places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts and at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi and Nabarangapur on June 1.
Lightning and thunderstorm are likely in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, and Khordha districts where the wind speed will be between 30 and 40 kmph.
Moreover, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind are very likely to occur at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Khurda, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, and Mayurbhanj districts today, the IMD forecasted.
However, there are unlikely to be any significant changes in the day temperature (maximum temperature) with many places in western Odisha recording 42°C. The western Odisha districts including Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh will continue to experience heatwave conditions.
The capital city of Bhubaneswar may witness one or two spells of rain or thundershower during the next 24 hours.
