Raja Acharya To Stay In Jail As Court Rejects Bail In Abduction Case

**Bhubaneswar:** Gangster Raja Acharya’s release from Jharpada Special Jail seems unlikely in the near future as Orissa High Court on Wednesday rejected his bail plea in an abduction and extortion case of 2010.

Reports said Orissa HC rejected his bail plea in a 2010 case pertaining to the abduction of an employee of Jyoti Motors and extortion of money from him.

Court sources said even though the Supreme Court (SC) had granted Acharya bail in the sensational murder case of Biranchi Das, he can’t be released out of jail as the court rejected his bail plea in a different case in which Acharya is the prime accused. Raja has been charged of extorting and kidnapping one employee of a vehicle showroom here in the capital city.

On the other hand, the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate police will be soon moving the Supreme Court seeking to quash Raja’s bail in the judo coach Biranchi Das murder case.

Sources said Police Commissioner Y B Khurania has written to the Home Department of the state government in this regard.

Nptably, Acharya is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted for the murder of judo coach Biranchi Das.

He is languishing in the Special Jail at Jharpada since May, 2008.

The District and Sessions Court, which was also the trial court in the case, has imposed multiple conditions on his release.
