Raja Sankranti: The Main Day Of Odisha’s Three-Day Folk Festival

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is celebrating the second day of its traditional three-day festival, Raja Sankranti, Today, which is the main day of the three-day Raja festival. The festive atmosphere is palpable everywhere, from cities to villages, as people come together to celebrate this unique folk festival of Utkal tradition.

Festive Celebrations Across The State

In various parks and public spaces, people are enjoying traditional games like Raja Doli, Puchi, cards, and Ludu, accompanied by cultural programs and competitions. Rows of stalls selling traditional cakes, sweets, drinks, and food have been set up in various places, adding to the festive atmosphere. In Puri Jagannath Dham and other temples across the state, devotees have gathered to offer prayers and seek blessings.

Raja Festival Significance

Raja festival is a celebration of womanhood and fertility, where women play a significant role in carrying forward the traditions and customs. The festival is also known for its unique traditions, such as playing Raja Doli and Puchi games, eating traditional cakes and sweets, and wearing new clothes and adorning themselves with flowers. These customs are an integral part of the festival, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Odisha and highlighting the importance of women’s roles in preserving and passing on these traditions.

The capital city of Bhubaneswar is also celebrating Raja Utsav with great enthusiasm. People are participating in various cultural events and traditional games, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Odisha.

Raja Sankranti is a significant day in the Raja festival, and people across Odisha are celebrating it with great fervour. As the festival comes to a close tomorrow, people are eagerly looking forward to the final day of celebrations, followed by Basumati Snana.
