Bhubaneswar: BJP’s candidate for Odisha Rajya Sabha elections Ashwini Vaishnaw filed his nomination papers today.
Vaishnaw, who is the Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology Minister, submitted the nomination papers to the Returning Officer of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Vaishnaw, who was once private secretary to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, filed his nomination papers in the presence of party’s Odisha Unit President Manmohan Samal and legislators such as Nauri Nayak, Kusum Tete, Mohan Charan Majhi.
Earlier, the BJP had announced Vaishnaw as the party candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. The party’s Central Election Committee has also released a list of Rajya Sabha candidates nominating Vaishnaw from Odisha.
On Wednesday, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) announced its support to BJP nominee Aswini Vaishnaw for the ensuing Rajya Sabha poll scheduled on February 27.
Through a press release, BJD announced its support to Vaishnaw for the ‘larger interest of the State’.
“Biju Janata Dal will support the candidature of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister, Railways, Communication, and Information and Technology for the larger interest of the State’s Railways and Telecom Development in the ensuing election to Rajya Sabha-2024,” the BJD announced through a press release.
