Bhubaneswar: A senior MLA of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Ranedra Pratap Swain will be the pro-tem speaker of the newly-elected Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Governor Raghubar Das will administer him the oath of office on Friday.
Later, the pro-tem Speaker will administer the oath to the newly elected members in the Assembly on June 18 and 19.
The election to the post of Speaker will be held on June 20.
In the just concluded Assembly polls, Swain won from his home seat Athagarh in Cuttack district.
Pro-tem speaker is a temporary speaker appointed for a limited period of time to conduct the business of the House in the absence of a regular speaker.
Usually, senior member of the House is made the pro-tem speaker.
On Wednesday, BJP’s Mohan Majhi, who represents Keonjhar Assembly constituency, took oath as the 15th chief minister of Odisha. He became the first BJP chief minister of the State.
