Rourkela: A rape accused who had managed to escape from police custody while undergoing medical examination was arrested by a special team of Rourkela Police on Tuesday.
The accused, Kashmir Hembrem was hiding in a drain after fleeing from police custody. Today afternoon, the police personnel spotted him hiding in a drain at a slum near Kutchery Road here.
Hembrem has been charged with raping a married woman and was arrested by Bramhani Tarang police on Monday. He escaped from police custody by dodging the constables on escort duty.
Acting promptly on this matter, SP Mukesh Bhamoo set up a special team which managed to nab the accused within 24 hours of his escape. The two constables who were Hembrem’s escort when the incident took place have been placed on suspension.
Few months back, a similar incident took place when a rape accused fled from police custody from the premises of a local Government hospital here. The accused was apprehended by Rourkela police few weeks later from Puri.
