Rayagada: Tension ran high at Dangasil village under Kashipur block in Rayagada district after a minor girl student of an Ashram school was allegedly raped by the peon of the same school.
The survivor has been admitted to Rayagada district headquarters hospital. On the other hand, police arrested the accused from the School. The accused belongs to the same village, police said.
The incident triggered tension in and around the school campus with villagers staging demonstration by burning tyres in front of the local police station. The irate people protested police while they entered the school to arrest the accused. Irate villagers also attacked the police. They also set afire two police vehicles and a bus during agitation. As the tension refused to die down, police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the mob.
Later, police picked up some locals involved in the violence. Three platoons of police force have been deployed in the village.
