Bhubaneswar: A rape accused who was out on bail was allegedly killed by the rape victim and her husband in Sundargarh district. The accused woman and her husband were later taken into custody by police on Sunday.
The deceased rape accused Raj Kumar Yadav (28), a native of Bihar, was shot with an arrow, and his body was later dumped in a nullah.
As per reports, the couple and Yadav resided in Teliposh village under Birmitrapur police limits in Sundargarh. Yadav is alleged to have raped the woman in January 2023 finding her alone at home. He then warned her not to disclose the incident to her husband. For the next four months, he continued to assault her whenever she was alone at night, leaving her traumatized.
The woman finally found the courage to confide in her husband about the incidents in May 2023. Her husband subsequently filed a police complaint, which led to Yadav’s arrest. Yadav was charged with rape and sent to Rourkela Special Jail. However, six months ago, he secured bail and began threatening the couple, asking them to withdraw the case.
The situation escalated on Saturday evening when Yadav arrived at the couple’s house and started threatening the rape victim. The woman alerted her husband, who was away at the time. Upon his return, he asked his wife to hand over a bow and arrow. In a desperate act, the rape victim’s husband shot Yadav, killing him instantly. The couple then disposed of the body in a nearby nullah.
The police were informed about the incident after locals found the body floating in the nullah. During the investigation, the couple confessed to the crime after being questioned by the police.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder.
