Rath Yatra 2018: Both Intelligence & Security Response Mechanism Well In Place, Says Odisha DGP

Puri: Ahead of the Rath Yatra 2018 on Saturday, the last preparatory meeting led by Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Dr R P Sharma was held on Wednesday.

DGP Dr R P Sharma briefed the media after the meeting. He informed that all the mobilized officers along with the police force have already reached Puri ahead of the chariot festival.

At least 1000 police officers and 140 platoons of OSAP battalion are involved in the whole security arrangements here. Different police forces are given different responsibilities. Both intelligence and security response mechanisms are well in place, the DGP informed.

He further informed, “Two Rapid Action Force (RAF) have arrived, two units of Odisha State Swift Action Force, NDRF, ODRAF teams have been put on action. In addition to that, the State Police have collaborated with the Coast Guards, RPFs and GRPs for the security procedure during the car festival."

A detail discussion on law and order for the peaceful happening of Rath Yatra was also discussed in the meeting. The police have also arranged for on the spot rehearsal and briefing in detail. The briefing and rehearsal will be done on Wednesday and Thursday.

Apart from all these, traffic arrangement have been doubled along with CCTV cameras at regular interval are being installed. The coast guards arrangements are also made active for any kind of anti-social activities during the festival.
