Ravenshaw Student Killed After Teacher’s Day Celebration

Cuttack: A female student of Ravenshaw University was killed after being hit by a truck while she was returning home after attending the Teacher’s Day celebration in the varsity on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Annapurna Choudhary, a resident of Choudwar area in the city. She was a +3 final year student of Economics department.

A CCTV camera installed near varsity has captured the whole incident where Annapurna is seen riding on her scooty when a speeding truck hit her from the behind killing her on the spot.

Following it, Ravenshaw students staged a road blockade demanding compensation for Annapurna’s family and action against on-duty traffic personnel for allowing a heavy vehicle to enter the city during the ban hours.

The students withdrew the protest after interference of Vice-Chancellor of Ravenshaw University, Prof. Ishan Kumar Patro, who later met the DCP in this regard and asked him to stop entry of vehicles in the area.

Patro informed that the DCP has also assured to take action against the responsible traffic personnel. The VC has also asked the DCP to seize the vehicle, close the U-turn near the varsity and ensure proper functioning of traffic signals.
