Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday night seized unaccounted money amounting to Rs 6 lakhs from the possession of Nina Beura, Superintendent of Excise, Rayagada.
At around 11.30 PM yesterday, based on credible information about the proceeding of Beura from Rayagada to Bhubaneswar carrying ill-gotten money collected from different sources, she was intercepted by a team of Odisha Vigilance near Bhubaneswar.
During interception, Rs 6 lakhs was recovered from her possession, which she could not account for satisfactorily.
Following the interception, searches are being done at different residential areas of Beura and her relatives. Her husband, Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, Inspector-In-Charge of Mahanga Police Station, on getting a tip-off, left the police station to evade search.
The Vigilance team, on reaching his quarter at Mahanga, found it locked and the IIC untraceable. He has been asked to report to Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division for enquiry.
Meanwhile, searches are continuing.
