Rayagada Records Two Malaria Deaths In 2024: Health Minister

Bhubaneswar: Rayagada district has witnessed two Malaria deaths in 2024, informed Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling.

Mahaling’s response came in reply to MLA Kadraka Appala Swamy’s query on the number of malaria and dengue cases in Rayagada district over the past five years, treatment facilities in government and private hospitals, affected tribal hostel inmates, and reasons behind disease-related deaths.

According to the Minister’s data, Malaria cases increased from 2790 in 2021 to 13835 in 2024, with 2 deaths in 2024. In 2025, Rayagada district witnessed 10913 cases.  Besides, Dengue cases were highest in 2022 (539) and lowest in 2025 (55). However, no dengue deaths were reported in the given years.

The government and private centres detected 513 malaria cases in 2024 and 261 in 2025. In 2025, 2661 malaria cases were detected from inmates of residing in school hostels and provided treatment.
