Rayagada: A youth was been arrested on Wednesday on primary charges of desecrating Hindu gods and posting the same on social media, said Police sources.
One Agasti Garada of Panchali village under Tikiri Police limits, with his associates on Tuesday burned pictures of several Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Asserting that they believe only in Indian Constitution, the entire act was shot and then posted on social media pages.
The video soon went viral and caused widespread outrage. Taking suo moto action, Raygada Police immediately arrested Garada under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) unlawful assembly (143A), injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class (295, 295A), and criminal conspiracy to commit an offence (120B).
Apprising the media, Rayagada Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Sarvana Vivek M said, “We received information of a communally sensitive video going viral on social media. We have investigated and arrested the main accused Agasti Garada. Search for rest is on.”
“We request everyone to not share this communally sensitive video as it also a cognizable offence. Please do not share any fake news,” said Rayagada SP.
