Rayagada: The Zilla Parishad president of the Rayagada district succumbed to his injuries inflicted in a critical road accident; incidentally on the same day when he was disqualified from his post.
Owing to discrepancies on his election as the Zilla Parishad president, the Rayagada district judge yesterday disqualified Gamanga and declared his election as null and void.
Purushottam Gamanga was returning from court in Rayagada to Gunupur yesterday when he met with an accident at Tandikana village of Ramnaguda block. He had come till Tandikana in a four-wheeler and was riding a bike to Ramnaguda when he met with an accident.
Locals first rushed him to Ramnaguda hospital and then to Gunupur. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to Srikakulam hospital, where the doctor declared him ‘brought dead’.
Gamanga was a senior Congress leader; however, he had lost Assembly election after contesting from Gunupur seat.
Gangadhar Puala of BJD had objected to election of Gamanga as Zilla Parishad president and hence the legal battle was initiated. Finally the district judge ruled against Gamanga and asked the officials to conduct an election as soon as possible.
