Red Alert For Twin City; No Let-Up In Heat Wave Till May 2

Bhubaneswar: There is no respite from hot and humid conditions in the State till May 2, 2024.

At a press meet, weather scientist, Umashankar Dash said that despite thunderstorm activities in some district, it has no impact on the temperature.

The IMD has issued red alert (severe heat wave) for 13 districts including twin city Bhubaneswar-Cuttack for next 24 hours.

Similarly, an orange warning has been issued for 17 districts for the heat wave condition.

Severe heat and humid condition prevailed during morning hour in the State. Angul recorded the highest maximum temperature of 36 degrees C at 8.30 AM, followed by 35.5 in Bhawanipatna and 35.4 degrees in Talcher.

The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar also recorded maximum temperatures of 33.2 and 33.4 degrees by 8:30 am.

Umashankar Dash informed that the humidity level is 71 percent in Bhubaneswar and 74 percent in Cuttack. In coastal districts, the overall humidity level stands at 65 percent.

As per the conditions, the humidity will remain hight till 11:30 am in the twin cities and later heat wave condition will prevail.

The mercury will touch over 44 degrees in some districts today, Dash informed.

After May 2, there is a possibility of drop in maximum day temperature, he added.
