Bhubaneswar: The BJD Parliamentary Party on Monday wrote to Union Food Supplies Minister Piyush Goyal demanding the release of a pending food subsidy for Odisha amounting to Rs 14,292.51 crore.
The BJD MPs led by Pinaki Misra in the Lok Sabha and Sasmit Patra in the Rajya Sabha, in a letter demanded the pending food subside and payment of Rs 6,187 crore towards the additional interest incurred by Odisha till November 30, 2022.
“In order to ensure that the farmers of Odisha do not face any problems, the Odisha Government signed an MoU with the Government of India to be a Decentralised Procurement (DCP) State and help the farmers by procuring foodgrains on behalf of the Government of India. In this reference, there is a total pending food subsidy amounting to Rs. 14,292.51 crore that the Government of India is to pay the Odisha Government,” a letter to Goyal read.
“Out of this Rs. 14,292.51 crores, there are Rs. 11,689.21 crores towards provisional food subsidy and Rs. 2603.30 crores towards advance subsidy.”
Apart from this, the Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation is yet to be paid Rs. 6,187 crores towards the additional interest it has incurred till November 30, cumulatively due to the delay in release and short-release of subsidy by the Government of India, the BJD MPs added.
