Bhubaneswar: Renew Green Energy Group has shown interest in developing green power generation, as well as establishing green ammonia and green methanol plants in Odisha.
The Group’s delegation conveyed its proposals during a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at the Lok Seba Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The discussion also covered the possibility of setting up a pumped storage project (PSP) in the state. This project would involve identifying renewable energy sources and using pumps to lift and store water, which would later be utilized for power generation.
Renew Energy Group has set an ambitious target to produce one metric tonne of green hydrogen annually by 2030 through three major projects in Odisha. These projects include a green ammonia plant in Paradip, and green methanol plants in Rayagada and Malkangiri. The delegation highlighted the need for government assistance in setting up these projects.
The establishment of these green energy projects is expected to contribute to Odisha’s economic growth and promote development in surrounding regions. Minister Singh Deo acknowledged the potential impact and assured that the state government would provide full support. He emphasized that the feasibility of the projects will be carefully evaluated before development proceeds, and the implementation will take place in a phased manner based on the findings.
Technical partnerships and project know-how were also discussed during the meeting. Among those present were Satyabrat Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change; Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Department of Energy; and Chintan Saha, President of Renew Group, along with other officials.
