Bhubaneswar: Rengali Dam authorities have opened the second gate (gate No. 10) to release excess water from the dam due to the rising water level in the Brahmani River, caused by heavy rainfall in the catchment area.

According to reports, the dam’s water level had reached 122.75 meters by 1 pm Thursday. The dam has a full reservoir capacity of 123.50 meters. With the gates open, the authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the dam’s safety and manage the floodwater effectively.

As of 3 pm, the water level at the dam stands at 122.77 meters. The inflow into the dam is currently 3834.60 cubic meters per second, while the outflow is 3773.91 cubic meters per second, managed through the two open gates and the power channel.

Despite the rising water levels, the dam is continuing to generate power, producing 245 megawatts of electricity per hour.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, aware that the water level is still rising at a rate of 2 cm per hour even after opening the two gates. Efforts are being made to ensure the dam’s safety and manage the floodwater effectively.
