**Bhubaneswar: ** The work on Rengali Left Bank Canal-II will be over by 2021 at an estimated cost of Rs 2,200 crore.
This was revealed by Odisha Water Resources Secretary P.K. Jena after a review meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.
Briefing media after the review meeting, Jena said, “The Rengali Left Canal system phase II has been taken over aided by the Japan Government. Its project coordination committee meeting was held today chaired by the Chief Secretary.”
“Basically the progress of the project and 4-5 issues pertaining to it were discussed. We stressed on the solution of the problems at the earliest,” he added.
Detailing on it, he informed, “This project is at an estimated cost of Rs 2,200 crore that would cater to the irrigational needs of 40,000 hectares of land in a span of six years. Out of the Rs 2,200 crore, JICA will lend Rs 1700 crore loan while the balance amount of Rs 500 crore will be borne by the State Government. The areas coming under the purview of 6 blocks will be irrigated. The areas are Kankadahad, Bhuban, Sukinda, Danagadi, Korei and Ghasipura.”
