Bhubaneswar: City-based NGO, Jivan Jagruti Welfare Trust (JJWT), started in 2021, has excelled on multiple fronts in offering selfless service to senior citizens. Initiated by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr Sunil Das, JJWT has been able to help people in need of attention.
As Dr Das says, every one of us can contribute in some way or other to serve society. “The resources may be limited or in excess, but the intent must be noble and dedicated to serving people.”
Starting when COVID was at its peak, JJWT under the guidance of Dr Das, celebrated its first annual function on Saturday. People from different walks of life attended the event and complimented the organisations efforts towards rendering geriatric care.
They were felicitated during the event for their contribution to the society. Guests who attended the function were Principal Secretary Finance, Vishal Dev, Regional Director ER-II, NTPC Ashim Kumar Goswami among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Dev said, “Service to mankind is service to God and the Jiban Jagruti trust is truly following this in letter and spirit. Many individuals and organisations aspire to do such noble work but fail to execute it, but people like Dr Sunil Das made it possible due to their sheer sincerity and hard work.”
Addressing the gathering, Goswami said, “At old age people need more of your time and attention than anything else and this trust is exactly serving this purpose. People should come forward and extend their support in large numbers for such a cause.”
“JJWT works for the cause and care of disadvantaged senior citizens and makes a sincere attempt to provide health care and emotional support. We always look for like-minded volunteers to join us and get a chance to contribute to changing the lives of disadvantaged senior citizens,” Dr Das said.
The organisation holds bi-monthly camps for senior citizens, in urban and rural areas. The camps focus on holistic health care for the elderly by creating awareness of age-based lifestyles such as practicing yoga, eating a healthy diet and creating a positive mindset to live healthy mentally and physically.
Apart from this, JJWT is focused on creating at least one ‘JIVAN SAKHA’ at each awareness camp to facilitate accessibility with the beneficiaries from that area.
“Jivan Sakha is the real backbone of the organization that will keep us connected with our beneficiaries as we grow. Jivan Shakha will help us reach out to the ones in need of our help from their respective cluster of beneficiaries,” Dr Das added.
The trust is dedicated to providing social security and freedom to those elderly individuals who, unfortunately, either live alone or live without family support. Jivan Jagruti also works towards protecting senior citizens from any form of abuse, a noble one indeed!
