Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today directed the Odisha government to take a legally valid decision over the reopening of schools in the State. The High Court directed the Revenue & Disaster Management Department to take the decision within two months.
A single-member bench of the High Court comprising of Justice Biswanath Rath issued the directive while conducting a hearing on a petition filed by one Ranjita Mohapatra seeking reopening of schools amid Covid restrictions.
The petitioner cited that bars, restaurants, shopping malls, and other establishments have been allowed to open amid Covid restrictions, and also permission has been given for holding three-tier panchayat polls, then why permission is not being granted for reopening schools.
When all other work can be done amid Covid restrictions why can’t schools be reopened, the petitioner has questioned.
The petitioner has pointed out that children’s studies have been affected with schools remaining closed.
The petitioner has prayed for reopening all schools immediately amid Covid restrictions.
