Bhubaneswar: After an intense spell of heatwave people of Odisha breathed a sigh of relief on Friday. Many parts of the State experienced light rains with thundershowers today afternoon which led to a drop in the soaring mercury levels.
According to the IMD, due to likely interaction of middle tropospheric westerly trough with lower level easterly,
and moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, Meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning.
Gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the districts of Odisha during next 3 to 4 days is also expected. “People are advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas,” the IMD stated.
Capital City Bhubaneswar where the maximum temperature crossed 43 degrees Celcius on Thursday, witnessed a noteworthy drop by around 13 degrees. Similar conditions prevailed in most parts of the State today.
IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of – Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nawarangpur.
Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two
places over the districts of – Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Nuapada, Bolangir, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. Hailstorm is expected to occur at one or two places likely over districts of Nuapada, Bolangir and Kalahandi, the IMD forecast noted.
