Bhubaneswar: The restoration work on the embankment of the Kani River, which was breached on Monday due to heavy rainfall, has commenced on early Thursday. Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, informed that the work will be completed soon.
The breach, which occurred near the Muslim Sahi dargah in Ahiyas-Kaspa under the Dasarathpur block, had unleashed floodwaters into the low-lying areas of Jajpur district, inundating several villages. The relentless rainfall over the past few days had swollen the river, leading to a rise in water levels in its tributaries.
The 30-feet breach had caused significant damage, affecting multiple villages in the Dasarathpur block. With the restoration work underway, authorities are working to mitigate the impact of the flood and restore normalcy to the affected areas.
