Bhubaneswar: A former Assistant Engineer with the Minor Irrigation department in Kamakhyanagar Sub-Division, Dhenkanal district, has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined for possessing disproportionate assets.

Mohan Charan Behera, who retired from service, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal.

The court convicted Behera under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will approach the competent authority to stop Behera’s pension. The case highlights the Vigilance department’s efforts to crack down on corruption and illicit wealth accumulation by public servants.
