Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court on Monday convicted a retired Medical Officer in a case of bribery and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 upon him.
According to the State Vigilance, the aforementioned retired government official, Dr Ajit Kumar Negi was posted at the community health centre in Dharmagarh in Koraput district in 2014 when he was arrested by the anti-corruption agency for bribery.
He was booked under Sections 7, 13(2), and 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant in a delivery case. Today, the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna convicted and sentenced him 3 years RI.
“Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Dr. Ajit Kumar Negi following his conviction. BK Nayak, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Koraput Division had investigated the case and Aswini Kumar Sahu, Special Public Prosecutor, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution,” the Vigilance stated.
