Balangir: A retired teacher was allegedly blackmailed by the relatives of his tenants by threatening to make his ‘obscene’ videos viral on social media. A complaint in this regard has been registered at Balangir Town Police Station.
Reportedly, the teacher was staying alone in his house as his son was working in the Air Force and his wife was staying with her daughter. On August 5, two persons identifying themselves as a brother (Biswanath Naik) and sister (Lalita Naik) and a couple whom Biswanath said were his daughter and son-in-law had sought the teacher’s house for rent for the couple.
The teacher agreed and the couple started staying in his house. On August 9, Biswanath visited the teacher and cunningly made him consume a sedative-laced soft drink. After he fell unconscious, Lalita visited the house and they made an obscene video of her with the teacher.
Later, when the teacher gained consciousness, they blackmailed him to pay them or they will make the video viral. Fearing public shame, he withdrew three lakh rupees from his bank at different intervals and gave it to them.
However, as the torture became unbearable, he tried to commit suicide on Thursday. His son and his wife reached home after receiving information from a source. They rescued him and they handed over the Biswanath and Lalita to the police. However, the couple managed to escape from there.
Based on the family’s complaint, the police have registered a case and started investigating the incident. On the other hand, Lalita alleged that the teacher has raped her.
