Bhubaneswar: In a major conviction in a corruption case, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025, sentenced Prafulla Kumar Mishra, retired Secretary of the Service Co-operative Society at Kamondo, Odagaon in Nayagarh district, to four years of rigorous imprisonment for misappropriation of agricultural loan funds.
Mishra was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 120-B of the IPC. The court found him guilty of embezzling cooperative funds meant for agricultural loans during his tenure.
In addition to the four-year sentence, the court also imposed a fine. Mishra was taken into judicial custody immediately following the pronouncement of the verdict to serve his sentence.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to stop Mishra’s pension benefits, as per legal provisions for convicted government servants.
This conviction marks another step in the state government’s intensified efforts to combat financial irregularities and corruption in rural and cooperative institutions.
