Bhubaneswar: Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur today sentenced retired former senior clerk of the District Police Office, Sambalpur Hari Shankar Nai to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a period of two years after convicting him for demanding and taking bribe.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Nai. In default of payment of the fine Nai has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of six months,, said an official press release.
The court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year and to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and in default to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of three months for the offence under section 7 of the PC Act, 1988. The court ruled that both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Nai had demanded and accepted bribe from the complainant for processing her nomination roll and was charge sheeted by the Vigilance under sections 13(2) read with 13(1) (d) and 7 of the PC Act of 1988.
The Vigilance will now move the competent authority to stop the pension of Nai following his conviction
