Bhubaneswar: Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar on Monday convicted and sentenced the retired Headmistress of UGUP School Bada Nuagaon, Jatani of Khordha district Basanti Devi to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a period of 3 years for demanding and accepting bribe from president of a SHG for preparation of their bill and submission of the same to the Block authority towards supply of materials for mid-day meals programme in the school and drawl of payment.
The Court also slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on convict Basanti Devi and in default of payment of fine she has to undergo RI for a period of 3 months more for the offence under section 13(2) of the PC Act, 1988.
The Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and payment of a fine of Rs 5,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence under section 7 of PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stopping of pension of Basanti Devi following her conviction.
