Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Sundargarh on Wednesday sentenced a retired Para Medical Worker to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a bribery case.
According to an official press release, Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh awarded two years RI to Dhananjaya Panigrahi, ex-Para Medical Worker, Birkera Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sundargarh district after convicting him for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant for preparation of birth certificates of his sons.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on Panigrahi and ruled that in default of payment of the fine he has to undergo further RI for one month more for the offence under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
The Court further sentenced Panigrahi to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs 1,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 month more for the offence under section 7 of P C Act,1988.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court said.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of Dhananjaya Panigrahi, Ex- Para Medical Worker (Retired) following his conviction.
