Bhubaneswar: A retired Revenue Inspector of Raisuan Circle under Sadar Tahasil in Keonjhar district was convicted and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment by a special vigilance court in Keonjhar in connection with a bribery case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Banchhanidhi Satpathy and in default of payment of fine, he would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for two months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
The court further sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.2,000. In default of payment of fine, the directed him to undergo two months more RI for the offence U/s 7 PC Act,1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Satpathy was arrested in 2017 for accepting bribe from a person for the demarcation of his land. He was charge-sheeted by the vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7/12 PC Act, 1988.
The convict, Banchhanidhi Satpathy, was sent to jail custody today to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of his pension following his conviction.
