Bhubaneswar: A retired soil conservation overseer-cum-project implementing Agency of Lahunipada, Samardari in Sundargarh district was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment by a vigilance court in a bribery case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict Rabi Ratna Kariali and in default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further one year of rigorous imprisonment for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act,1988.
The court further sentenced him to undergo three years of rigorous imprisonment and directed him to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. In default of payment of fine, he would undergo one year of further rigorous imprisonment for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Further, the convict Rabi Ratna Kariali was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Kariali was arrested by Vigilance for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 30,000 from a person to prepare the final bill for the release of payment towards different watershed project works in Lahunipada of Sundergarh.
