Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested a Revenue Inspector and his associate from the Gandanali Revenue Circle under Hindol Tahasil in Dhenkanal district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000.
The accused have been identified as Sashi Bhusan Behera (Revenue Inspector) and Bishnu Ballav Khatua, a private person.
According to an official press release, Behera was caught red-handed inside his office chamber while demanding and accepting the bribe amount through Khatua. The bribe was reportedly sought to process and furnish favourable reports in four mutation cases filed by the complainant. Despite multiple requests, Behera allegedly delayed the process and demanded Rs 15,000 for each case.
Based on a complaint filed with Odisha Vigilance, a trap was laid, leading to the duo’s arrest. The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized from their possession.
Following the operation, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations linked to Behera as part of a Disproportionate Assets (DA) probe.
A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
